"One of the many advantages of working with the horse is that the feedback it gives through it's behavior doesn't come through the filter of language. Part of the healing power of this work is that it is bringing
teens out of their head and into intimate connection with nature to inspire, teach and enlighten them."

Executive Director Wakan

CLASS DETAILS & REGISTRATION:

Clothing: The weather is variable as we are on the coast. During the fall and winter months days are overcast and cool with late afternoon winds and fog. Bring plenty of layers to stay warm including sweatshirts, sweaters, vests and jackets. Sturdy shoes are required for your safety. No sneakers, open toed or open back shoes are allowed in the arena with horses. If you are participating in the riding portion of our program, please wear jeans. Helmets are required for trail riding. If you don’t own a helmet let us know and you may borrow one of ours.

Lunch: Lunch is included for full day programs. We will provide water, tea, hot chocolate, juices and snacks for all our programs.

Registration forms: Liability insurance releases, photo/video releases and participant registration forms must be signed by participants and parent or legal guardian if participant is under 18 years of age. Participation in the activities at the ranch will not be allowed unless all forms are completed and signed.

Directions: We are located on the Thornton Ranch, a 1000 acre, fifth generation family owned and operated working cattle and sheep ranch in Tomales, California. The famed beauty of Coastal Northern California surrounds the land. The unspoiled beauty of the country is accented by abundant wildlife including coyotes, bobcats, deer, hawks, owls and eagles.

From 101: Exit Washington St. and continue towards Petaluma. Go through Petaluma on Washington St. approximately 8 miles or so. Washington becomes Bodega Ave. Continue on Bodega Ave. Turn LEFT on Tomales Rd. (green road sign reads Coast Guard Training Center/Tomales). Follow Tomales Rd. (about 4 miles) to Cerini Rd. and turn LEFT.

(There is a white sign marked Thornton Dairy at the entrance to our driveway). Stay on Cerini Rd. a little over two miles. You’ll cross two cattle guards and see the horses/barn up on the hill to the right. Parking is across from the horse barn.

CLASS DETAILS & REGISTRATION

"The timing of this workshop was amazing. I was going through a tough time at home and with a personal friend. I realized through the obstacle course exercise that both situations were directly related to the way I've been behaving. The horses showed me I was not going to get anywhere if I continued this way. I have new insights in how I want to lead my life, especially in the area of relationships... I feel great! Thank-you Alyssa and Sage!"
